China
November 2011
I travelled to Beijing, China with forty other new leaders of EF Tours. We spent five jam packed days enjoying the sites. We toured Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City, the Emperor's Summer Palace, Olympic Park, and of course the Great Wall. See picture:-) The wall is spectacular & now I understand why it is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. Standing on the wall, it is hard to imagine it's construction, 3,000+ miles long, as well as it's maintenance. I found the city and Chinese people to be truly amazing! In addition, I learned a lot about leading a successful trip through EF Tours. I cannot wait for June 2012 when we leave for Ireland, Wales, England, & France!
Keizai Koho Teacher Fellowship 2011
June -July 2011
Participant in the Keizai Koho Teacher Fellowship program. I was one of 10 American teachers who spent two weeks traveling to Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Tokyo. We visited schools, businesses, and various cultural sites. For me, the most powerful experience was spending time in Hiroshima on July 4th. We visited the Peace Memorial Park, Peace Memorial Museum, listened to a hibakusha, survivor of the atomic bombing, and meet with Hiroshima Mayor Matsui. Mr. Matsui gave me a request to take home and present to New Richmond Mayor Horne. On September 12th, I shared the message with the New Richmond City Council and the Council voted to officially join the Mayors for Peace Program!
